Antigua concern about illegal immigrants
Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer has joined the debate regarding illegal CARICOM migration.
Mr. Spencer is expressing concern about what he says are thousands of Caribbean nationals who have been entering Antigua and Barbuda illegally.
He says while his administration has always had an open door policy as far as the movement of Caribbean nationals is concerned, scores of persons are now living and working in the country illegally.
Mr. Spencer says with the government’s implementation of the Millennium Naturalisation Act, at least 1,500 non-nationals have been granted citizenship after spending just three years in the country.
According to the Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister, non-nationals account for more than a third of the total workforce and nearly a quarter of the country’s electorate.
