Powell headlines sprint field
Jamaica’s former world-record holder Asafa Powell will be in action today when he competes in the men’s 100 metres at the Bislett Games in Oslo, Norway.
Powell will be trying to become only the second man in history to post more than 50 sub-10 second results. Maurice Greene of the United States tops the all-time list with 53 sub-10 clockings.
The field also includes Powell’s teammate Michael Frater, Daniel Bailey of Antigua, Marc Burns of Trinidad and Tobago and Churandy Martina of the Netherlands Antilles.
Five other Jamaican are also down to compete.
They are double Olympic sprint medallist Kerron Stewart and Sheri-Ann Brooks, who will compete in the women’s 100 metres; Olympic silver medallist Shericka Williams, who competes in the women’s 400 metres, and Deloreen Ennis London and Brigitte Foster-Hylton, who are slated to compete in the women’s 100 metre hurdles.
