Gold Cup tournament begins today
Jamaica’s Reggae Boys will kick off the 12-nation CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament against Canada in the opening match of a double header at the Home Depot Centre in Los Angeles this evening at 7 o’clock Jamaica time.
The second game, scheduled to start at 9 o’clock, will feature El Salvador against Costa Rica, the other teams in Jamaica’s group.
The tournament will run until July 26 in 13 different American cities.
The Jamaicans will be taking orders from new head coach Theodore Whitmore, who replaced John Barnes last month.
Barnes, who led the Reggae Boys to the Caribbean Championship title in December, which saw the side qualify for the CONCACAF Gold Cup, took up a coaching job with English League One club Tranmere Rovers.
Jamaica will be at full strength for the game, while Canada will field some new faces with forward Simeon Jackson, defenceman Dejan Jakovic and goalkeeper Joshua Wagenaar.
