West Indies to prepare for 2010 World Cup
The West Indies will begin their pursuit of the 2010 20/20 World Cup in the Caribbean against an associate team of the International Cricket Council (ICC) on April 30 next year.
The match will take place at the Guyana National Stadium.
Pakistan will begin the defence of the title they won last month in England against Bangladesh in St Lucia on May 1.
Runners-up Sri Lanka will tackle New Zealand on the opening day of the competition on April 30 at the Guyana National Stadium.
The West Indies Women will start against South Africa on May 5, the same day that 2009 inaugural women’s champions England tackle archrivals Australia in their opening match.
The men’s and women’s competitions will again be held at the same time with the matches being staged at Kensington Oval in Barbados, the National Stadium in Guyana, the Beausejour Cricket Ground in St Lucia and Warner Park in St Kitts.
Kensington Oval has been awarded the Finals. Both the men’s and women’s finals will be played on Sunday, May 16.
Beausejour in St Lucia will host all four semi-finals on Thursday, May 13 and Friday, May 14.
West Indies have been seeded at the top of Group ‘D’ which also includes England and an associate qualifier.
Pakistan, Bangladesh and Australia will comprise Group ‘A’, while South Africa, India and a qualifier team are in Group ‘B’. Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Zimbabwe are in Group ‘C’.
