Jamaica CAC team in the island

Members of Jamaica’s team to the Central American and Caribbean Games in Cuba are back in the island following the three-day meet, which ended on Sunday.



Jamaica finished joint second with Trinidad and Tobago in the medal table. Both countries mined 14 medals including two gold, five silver and seven bronze.



Hosts Cuba dominated the game with 53 medals including 27 gold 19 silver and seven bronze.



Nickel Ashmeade and Nickiesha Wilson handed Jamaica their only gold medals, which came on Sunday’s final day.



Ashmeade won gold in the men’s 200 metres with a time of 20.54 seconds, while Wilson dominated the 400-metre hurdles field, clocking 56.95 for the gold.



Meanwhile, Jamaica’s 20-member squad is now in Italy for the sixth International Association of Athletics Federations World Youth Championships, set to start tomorrow and ends on Sunday.
