Pope calls for UN reform

The Catholic leader Pope Benedict the 16th has called for reform of the United Nations and financial bodies, saying that an equitable approach needs to be taken towards the global economic crisis.

The Pope says the blind pursuit of economic mismanagement had significantly hurt the global economy.

He also says the global market must not become the place where the strong prevail over the weak.

A BBC correspondent says the Pope will have his first meeting with President Barack Obama at the Vatican on Friday.

The men plan to exchange views on the moral imperatives facing world leaders this year.
