Opening test between WI and Bangladesh in doubt

Reports have emerged that a labour dispute is threatening Thursday’s opening Test between hosts West Indies and Bangladesh at the Arnos Vale Sports Complex.

The Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC) reported that there has been a breakdown in negotiations between the West Indies players and the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) over outstanding issues regarding payment of fees for the recent tour of England.

CMC also said that players are unhappy about certain terms and conditions contained in the contract for that tour and have rejected the agreement, although the WICB is ready to make payment to them.

The players were to arrive in the St Vincent capital yesterday ahead of the Test but remained in St Lucia. The players were then booked to fly into St Vincent today, but failed to make the flight.

The series comprises two Tests, three One-Day Internationals, and one Twenty/Twenty International.
