St. Kitts row over constituency boundaries
The Leader of St. Kitts’ main opposition party, Lindsay Grant, says she will thoroughly oppose moves by the government to change the country’s constituency boundaries.
Her statements come in anticipation of a possible general election that could be called soon by Prime Minister Denzil Douglas.
The Prime Minister has said the only thing that will keep him from calling elections was the fact that a review of constituency boundaries was not completed.
Last week, High Court judge Francis Belle disallowed the government from changing the country’s constituency boundaries until further notice.
Ms. Grant says the government’s intentions have been unfair and unconstitutional, claiming that the government sought to sway votes in their favour through manipulating the boundaries.
The court hearing on the matter will resume later today, with both the lawyers of government and opposition parties expected to present their arguments.
