Jamaica gets first medal at World Youth Champs

National junior record holder Traves Smikle mined the first medal for Jamaica on today’s opening day of the World Youth Championships in Bressanone, Italy.
The 17-year-old finished third in the Men’s Discus Final for the bronze medal with a personal best throw of 61.22 metres.
He is the first Jamaican discus thrower to represent the country at this level.
The gold medal went to Hamid Manssour of Syria with a throw of 64.20 metres, while American Ryan Crouser took the silver medal with a throw of 61.64 metres.
