Stanford’s lawyer wants him released

A lawyer representing Texan billionaire Sir Allen Stanford has asked a United States federal judge to release his client from jail until his trial.

In a court filing yesterday, Dick DeGuerin said that Stanford’s continued detention was draconian.

He also said Stanford is having difficulty signing papers because his hands are kept in handcuffs shackled to his waist.

Stanford was arrested on June 18.

Last week, US District Judge David Hittner declined to release him on the grounds that he considers Stanford a serious flight risk.
