Clash between Powell and Gay today

The eagerly anticipated clash between world record holder Asafa Powell of Jamaica and double world champion Tyson Gay will take place today at the Golden League meeting in Rome.



They will face off in the men’s 100 metres as they aim to test their credentials against each other before the upcoming World Championships.



Before the final, which is scheduled to start at 2:13 in the afternoon Jamaica time, there will be two heats.



Gay will run in Heat One, while Powell will compete in Heat 2 along with Jamaicans Michael Frater, Yohan Blake and Steve Mullings.



The women’s 100 metres will also have two heats before the final, which is down to run at 2:03 in the afternoon Jamaica time.



There are three Jamaicans in Heat One. They are Beijing Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser, Aleen Bailey and Sheri-Ann Brooks.



Heat Two will feature Beijing Double medallist Kerron Stewart of Jamaica.



Fourteen other Jamaicans are down to compete at the meet including Beijing Olympics gold medallist Melaine Walker, Beijing Olympics silver medallist Shericka Williams, Novlene Williams-Mills, Delloreen-Ennis London, Brigitte Foster-Hylton, Isa Phillips and Danny McFarlane.
