The Venezuelan government has imposed new regulations on cable and satellite television channels in the country.

Under the rules, international broadcasting entities which produce most of their content in Venezuela will have to comply with local broadcasting laws.

They are required to carry speeches by President Hugo Chavez on a regular basis.

The government said the move is part of an effort to better regulate the media in the country.

However, the opposition said it is a violation of freedom of speech.

The government has so far revoked the licences of more than 200 local radio stations that have not complied with Chavez’s new policy.
