Canada imposes new visa requirements
Canada has imposed visa requirements on travelers from Mexico and the Czech Republic.
Canadian Immigration Minister Jason Kenney says the move follows a significant increase in refuge claims from the two countries.
But he says many of the claims were later rejected or abandoned, raising doubts about their legitimacy.
Officials says since 2007, about 3,000 Czech nationals have requested asylum, while 9,400 Mexicans applied last year.
The Czech government says the move is wrong and is recalling its ambassador.
The Czech government has also indicated that it will reciprocate by imposing visas on Canadian diplomats and business travelers.
Meanwhile, the Mexican government says it regrets Canada\'s decision and that it will be closely monitoring the implementation of the requirements to ensure the rights of Mexicans are respected.
While the visa requirement takes effect today people already traveling to Canada will be able to apply for a visa on arrival until tomorrow.
