CXC reforms 11 subjects
The Barbados-based Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) has signed an agreement with the University of the West Indies that could result in a paradigm shift from role learning to real thinking.
CXC Chief Executive Officer Dr Didacus Jules, said the syllabus of 11 subjects will be reformed drastically to produce people capable of making meaningful contributions to society.
He say employers have been wanting people with a capacity to apply their knowledge.
The pilot project, to be conducted over the next two years, will focus on Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Integrated Science, Economics, Caribbean History and Geography.
Social Studies, Principles of Business, and English Literature are also to be part of the project at the Caribbean Secondary Examination Certificate level.
It will also focus on Literatures in English at the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency level.
Pro Vice-Chancellor of Planning and Development at the UWI, Dr Bhoe Tewarie said various faculties and lecturers at the university will be involved in the new project.
