Mercedes Cup Round Up

Second-seeded Nikolay Davydenko breezed into the quarterfinals of the Mercedes Cup by beating Michael Berrer of Germany 6-3, 6-3 today.



The tournament is being played in Germany.



Davydenko of Russia is seeking to return to the top 10, after falling out in April for the first time in four years.



Now ranked Number 11, Davydenko missed most of the first four months of the tour due to various injuries.



Davydenko\'s quarterfinal opponent will be Fabio Fognini of Italy, who advanced when Paul-Henri Mathieu of France retired because of dizzy spells while trailing 6-4, 4-1.



Germany\'s Nicolas Kiefer beat countryman Simon Greul 6-3, 6-4 to reach his first quarterfinal of the year.



Jeremy Chardy of France also advanced to the last eight by rallying to defeat Martin Vassallo Arguello of Argentina 2-6, 6-3, 6-1.
