Dominica opens tendering process

Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said legislation could shortly be taken to parliament to allow for the tendering process to be extended to companies not registered in Dominica.

Mr Skerrit said the changes to the international tender process will be announced when he presents the 2009-10 national budget later this month.

His government has faced immense public criticism in recent weeks over its handling of the so called rubbish bin scandal.

The Dominica Labour Party has been criticised for bypassing the tendering process when it purchased over 2 thousand garbage bins for the Roseau City Council from US- based Logisticial Supplies Solution Inc.

But Mr Skerrit said since the current law does not provide for tendering for companies not registered in Dominica the process could not have been opened up.

He’s still insisting that there was no clear cut case of corruption in the purchasing of the garbage bins.
