Ministers to discuss LIAT
The Prime Ministers of Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados and St Vincent and the Grenadines will meet today to discuss the future of regional airline, LIAT.
The three countries are the main shareholders in the airline.
Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer of Antigua and Barbuda said the meeting, will be hosted by his counterpart Dr Ralph Gonsalves of St Vincent.
He also said the meeting would review several proposals.
Prime Minister Gonsalves has responsibility for aviation matters within the Caribbean Community.
The meeting comes as the airline’s management and staffs remain at loggerheads over a decision not to remove pension funds that have been placed with the troubled regional insurance firm, CLICO.
In a July 13 memo to the staff, LIAT’s management said while it’s seeking to safeguard the funds it would not withdraw pensions from the troubled institution.
