Guyana president meets with WICB, WIPA
CARICOM’s chairman Bharrat Jagdeo will attempt to find a solution to the impasse between the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) when he meets with the parties today.
The West Indies’ first choice players are on strike over pay and contract issues with the WICB.
As a result of the strike, West Indies were represented by a replacement team in the two-Test series against Bangladesh, which ended yesterday in Grenada.
Jagdeo, who is the president of Guyana, is expected to hold separate meetings with WIPA and WICB in Guyana.
Gerard Pinard, a member of the WICB’s negotiating committee, said both parties will not meet with President Jagdeo at the same time. He said the WICB meeting is scheduled for noon.
WIPA announced last week that they had asked CARICOM’s intervention in the impasse.
The WICB will be represented by president Dr Julian Hunte, vice-president Dave Cameron, lawyer Alana Medford and members of the negotiating committee.
