No new taxes in Dominica

Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, has announced that his administration will not introduce any new taxes when the national budget is presented.

The Prime Minister is expected to present the 2009-2010 budget in Parliament later this month or early August.

Mr Skerrit said the decision was made despite the growing demands from citizens and the problems associated with the downturn in the global economy.

He said he’s hoping Dominicans will not make unnecessary demands on the country because the government cannot afford it.

Mr Skerrit is seeking to assure that his government will do all it can to contain the country’s debt.
