Bolt, Powell to face off again
Beijing Olympic triple gold medallist Jamaica’s Usain Bolt will take on countryman and former record holder Asafa Powell over 100 metres on today’s first day of the two-day London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace.
The final is scheduled to start at 2:15 this afternoon Jamaican time, following two heats.
Powell and countryman Yohan Blake will compete in Heat One at 12:17, while Bolt, who broke the 100 metres and 200 metres world records at the Beijing Olympics, will race in Heat Two at 12:27.
Powell is unbeaten over the distance at Crystal Palace having run under 10 seconds in his previous three races at the venue. However, Bolt will start as favourite.
Another Jamaican, Aleen Bailey will compete on the first day. She will run in the women’s 200 metres at 12:40.
Three Jamaicans are down to compete on tomorrow’s final day.
Olympic champion Melaine Walker will compete in the women’s 400 metre hurdles, Mardrea Hyman will run in the women’s 3000 steeplechase and Delloreen Ennis-London will compete in the women’s 100 metre hurdles.
