Grenada\'s Attorney General James Bristol has resigned.

Mr Britol stepped down after he wrote a letter relating to a personal matter on the official letterhead of the Attorney General\'s office.

The letter was sent to the United States Prosecutor asking for leniency for his stepson.

Mr. Bristol has described his action as an error in judgment.

He says writing the letter on the government\'s stationery was inappropriate.

Prime Minister Tillman Thomas had asked for Mr Bristol\'s resignation.

Mr. Thomas says while he regrets the circumstances, his decision was based on his commitment to keep his promises to the people of Grenada to restore high ethical standards, procedures, practices and integrity in public office.
