Pittman pulls out of World Championships

The much anticipated clash between Beijing Olympic champion Melaine Walker of Jamaica and Australian Jana Pittman-Rawlinson will not materialise at next month’s World Championships in Berlin, Germany.

Pittman-Rawlinson has pulled out after succumbing to a back-related injury and will not defend her 400 metre hurdles title.

It is another major blow to Pittman-Rawlinson, after injury forced her to miss last summer’s Beijing Olympics. In her absence Walker won the gold medal.

Pittman-Rawlinson has only raced twice since returning to the track last month after a year-long lay-off due to complications from a toe injury.

The Australian says she will now be focusing on getting fit for London 2012.
