The man charged with the April 2006 murder of Guyana’s agriculture minister Satyadeow Sawh and three other people, has died in hospital.

David Leander had been hospitalised after collapsing in his cell one week ago.

His relatives claim he was poisoned.

However hospital sources say they’re still awaiting the results of several tests.

David Leander had been hardly able to walk when he first appeared in court in 2007, with a number of injuries clearly visible on his body.

His attorney had claimed at the time that he had been tortured by the security forces while in custody.
