The Cayman Islands have confirmed their first H1N1 death, a 31 year old male.
With inadequate supplies of Tamiflu, the drug used to treat the influenza, health officials have advised residents to take all the precautions they can to prevent infection.
Health Minister, Mark Scotland, says the development demonstrates that the Cayman Islands are not immune to the spread of the unique flu virus.
He noted that it is persons with underlying medical conditions, such as the young man who passed away, who are most susceptible to serious complications, and sometimes death.
Jamaica and the Dominican Republic are the only other Caribbean countries that have recorded swine flu deaths even though the number of cases across the region is still rising.
