Jamaica win TCL Under-19 title
Jamaica are now preparing for the TCL Group West Indies Under-19 One Day competition after taking the three-day Cup yesterday.
The One-Day competition bowls off on Thursday.
Jamaica won the three-day competition by defeating 2008 champions Barbados by 10 wickets on yesterday’s final day at Kensington Park.
Jamaica were set a mere three runs for victory and they required a single delivery to formalize the result.
Barbados, who resumed the day on 189-7 still needing a further 78 runs to avoid the follow on, were dismissed for 284 despite a fighting 103 from captain Jason Holder.
Following on 152 runs behind, Barbados collapsed for 154 in their second innings and with T&T and Guyana drawing at Elletson Road, Jamaica grabbed the crucial 12 points to top the standings.
Final scores in the game are Jamaica 436-6 declared and 3 without loss, Barbados 284 and 154.
Jamaica, who entered day six behind leaders T&T, ended on 48 points, three ahead of the Trinidadians on 45.
T&T title hopes disappeared after they were set a victory target of 327 runs in a minimum of 49 overs by second-from-the-bottom Guyana.
T&T were 149-6 when the game was called off. Final scores in that game are Guyana 228 and 269, T&T 171 and 149-6.
Meanwhile, last place Windward Islands snapped a four-game losing streak with an innings and 118 runs victory over fourth place Leeward Islands before lunch at Melbourne Oval.
Following on 263 runs behind on first innings, the Leewards were bowled out for 145 in their second innings, after resuming on 77-3.
Final scores in the game are Windward Islands 457, Leeward Islands 194 and 145.
