Chambers selected for World Championships

Formerly banned sprinter Dwain Chambers was picked today for Britain\'s track team for the World Championships in Berlin from August 15 to 23.

Chambers, who tested positive for the steroid THG in 2003 and served a two-year suspension, joins automatic pick Simeon Williamson and Tyrone Edgar in the 100 metres.

He will race alongside Marlon Devonish and Toby Sandeman in the 200 metres.

Jamaica world record holder Usain Bolt is the big favourite to land the 100 and 200 metres.

Chambers’ inclusion in the 100 was expected, even though he failed to earn a guaranteed spot in the British trials in Birmingham earlier this month. The 31-year-old Chambers lost to Williamson in the 100 trials and withdrew from the 200 because of fatigue.

Olympic and world 400 champion Christine Ohuruogu is included despite being troubled by a hamstring injury, which ruled her out of the recent Golden League meeting in Paris and the London Grand Prix last weekend.

Marathon world record-holder Paula Radcliffe had already been selected but is still recovering from surgery to remove a bunion from her right foot.
