US President Barack Obama\'s chief counter-terrorism adviser says the United States government is forging a new approach to tackling violent extremism.

John Brennan says Washington will no longer use terms like war on terror.

It also has no plans to employ interrogation tactics like water-boarding, which he says has only played into the hands of terror groups like al-Qaeda.

According to Brennan, its time to use diplomacy and dialogue to solve problems.

Brennan, who is Mr Obama\'s assistant for homeland security and counter terrorism, says the United States will not be defined by what it opposes but by what it supports.
