MVP athletes could be axed from team
A number of star athletes, including former world record holder Asafa Powell could be axed from the Jamaican team following their decision to skip the pre-World Championships camp.
Powell, along with Olympic 100-metre champion Shelly-Ann Fraser, Olympic 400-metre runner up Sherika Williams and sprint hurdler Brigitte Foster Hylton have failed to report for the training camp in Nuremberg, Germany.
All the athletes are from the Maximising Velocity Power Track Club and trained by Stephen Francis.
When contacted, President of the Jamaica Amateur Athletics Association, Howard Ares, confirms that the camp is mandatory. He further said the athletes know what will happen if they fail to attend the camp.
However, Ares said the management staff of Donald Quarrie and Trevor Campbell will make the decision regarding the team.
Neither could be reached at the Nuremberg training base for comment.
The World Championships will start this weekend in the historic German city of Berlin.
