JADCO appealing Jamaican athletes cleared of drugs
The Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission (JADCO) is appealing the decision of a disciplinary panel to clear Yohan Blake, Marvin Anderson, Allodin Fothergill and Lansford Spence of doping related charges.
The appeal came a few hours after Kent Gammon, chairman of the Jamaica Anti Doping Disciplinary Panel said its members did not find any evidence to suggest that an anti-doping violation occurred with respect to the athletes.
Gammon said the athletes returned Adverse Analytical Findings for the substance Methyl Hexanamine, which is not on the banned list of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
However, JADCO through a press release said the substance is considered by WADA as being of a similar chemical structure to Tuaminoheptane, which is listed as an example of a stimulant in the WADA 2009 prohibited list.
A fifth athlete, Sheri-Ann Brooks was cleared last Wednesday, and JADCO is also appealing that case.
The athletes returned positive results following the National Senior Trials between June 26 and 28.
The five athletes were named to Jamaica’s team for the World Championships in Berlin, Germany from August 15 to 23.
But Anderson has pulled out of the World Championship squad because of injury.
