MVP athletes arrive at hotel in Berlin
The four MVP Track Club athletes, including former world record holder Asafa Powell and Beijing Olympic champions Shelly-Ann Fraser, who did not show up at the mandatory pre-World Championships training camp in Nuremberg, Germany, checked into their hotel at the Games Village today.
The other MVP athletes reported to be absent were Sherika Williams and sprint hurdler Brigitte Foster-Hylton.
Stephen Francis trains all the MVP athletes.
The Jamaica Amateur Athletics Association (JAAA) says athletes who missed the camp will be ineligible to compete at the championships.
When contacted, President of the JAAA, Howard Ares, confirms that the camp is mandatory. He further says the athletes know what will happen if they fail to attend the camp.
However, Ares says the management staff of Donald Quarrie and Trevor Campbell will make the decision regarding the team.
Neither could be reached for comment.
The World Championships will start this weekend in the historic German city of Berlin.
