T&T, El Salvador face off in World Cup qualifier

Trinidad and Tobago will host El Salvador tonight in a crucial CONCACAF World Cup qualifier at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

The Trinidadians, who have only two points from five outings, need a victory to renew their dream of reaching their second World Cup finals.

Both teams will be familiar with each other, having met four times in the last two year. T&T won two matches, El Salvador took one while the other finished in a draw.

In another match in the group, the United States will face host Mexico at Estadio Azteca.

The United States will be aiming for revenge after going down 5-0 to Mexico in the CONCACAF Gold Cup final 17 days ago.

But the United States have never won a game in Mexico dating from 1937.

Costa Rica lead the CONCACAF qualifying with 12 points, followed by the United States 10, Honduras 7, Mexico 6, El Salvador 5 and Trinidad and Tobago 2.

The top three advance automatically to South Africa, while the fourth placed team faces a play-off with the fifth placed team from South America for another berth.
