Split in Opposition as Warner sues Panday
The ongoing split in the main opposition United National Congress in Trinidad and Tobago appears to be widening.
The differences came about after Deputy Leader Jack Warner demanded internal elections for a new executive for the party.
Mr Warner announced that he plans to file a lawsuit against his leader and former Prime Minister Basdeo Panday for libel and slander following comments made by Mr Panday.
Earlier this week Warner announced plans to donate US$51,500 to pay 54 cleaners of the Chaguanas Borough Corporation for the period of August 1 to September 31.
When asked to comment on the decision, Panday questioned Warner’s motive demanding to know whether the source of the funds was from drug lords.
Mr Warner responded by saying that Mr Panday had crossed the line and he would take him to court based on his reference to drug lords.
