The Russian navy has deployed five vessels including nuclear submarines to continue the search for the Maltese -flagged Artic Sea ship reportedly hijacked three weeks ago in the Baltic Sea.

The 15 member strong Russian crew was reportedly taking timber worth 900 thousand pounds sterling from Finland to Algeria when gunmen boarded it on July 24.

The ship was last sighted off the north cost of France on July 30 and later by a Portuguese coastal patrol aircraft.

However its current location is unknown.

Maltese authorities believe it is unlikely to be in the Mediterranean.
