CONCACAF Round Up
Substitute Miguel Sabah scored in the 82nd minute to lead hosts Mexico to a 2-1 victory over the United States last night in their final round CONCACAF World Cup qualifier at the Estadio Azteca.
It was Mexico’s third win in six matches. The victory put the Mexicans back on track to qualify for next year’s World Cup in South Africa. They have now climbed to third place on nine points.
Over at the Hasley Crawford Stadium, an early Cornell Glen strike earned Trinidad and Tobago a desperate 1-0 win against fellow struggler El Salvador.
It was T&T\'s first win in six matches in the final round and it kept the Soca Warriors last in the six-team group but with renewed hope of making a second straight World Cup finals.
El Salvador remained fifth.
Costa Rica lead the CONCACAF qualifying with 12 points, followed by the United States on 10.
The top three teams will advance automatically to South Africa while the fourth place team faces a play-off with the fifth place team from South America for another berth.
