Jamaica, Ecuador battle to goalless draw
Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz and Ecuador last night battled to a goalless draw in their friendly international at the Giants Stadium in New Jersey.
The Jamaicans, who played without their English-based players, gave a creditable performance to hold the South Americans, who are still in the mix to qualify for the World Cup 2010.
Ecuador put the ball in the back of the net during the first half, but the goal was ruled offside.
Jamaica ended with 10 men after Navian Boyd was shown the red card in the 88th minute.
The match was the second between the teams at the senior level. Ecuador won 2-1 at home on October 4, 1996.
Meanwhile, in friendlies played across Europe, England hit back to draw 2-2 with the Netherlands in Amsterdam, Argentina beat Russia 3-2 in Moscow, Brazil captured a 1-0 victory over Estonia, Portugal outplayed Liechtenstein 3-0 and Argentina edged Russia 3-2 in Moscow.
