No lie detector test says Guyanese union

President of the Guyana Public Service Union Patrick Yarde has called for public servants to abstain from participating in polygraph testing which is being used by the government to stamp out corruption at public institutions.

Mr Yarde said any attempt to get the public servants to take the test would be tantamount to assault.

He said public servants should also contact the union if they are dismissed if they fail the polygraph test, more popularly known as a lie detector test.

Last week, Head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr Roger Luncheon announced that 13 persons were dismissed after they failed the lie detector tests.

However, the union leader has described the new measure as double standard, as according to him government ministers, permanent secretaries and other policy makers are not subjected to testing.
