Britain is set to resume direct rule over the Turks and Caicos Islands.
This morning the British governor signed a proclamation that will bring into force an order in the council suspending parts of the TCI constitution.
Governor Gordon Wetherell says the ministerial government and the House of Assembly are suspended with immediate effect.
This means that the cabinet no longer exists.
It also means that the constitutional right to trial is also suspended.
Former Premier Michael Misick lost his appeal on Wednesday to suspend the territory’s constitution, which paved the way for Britain to impose direct rule on the islands.
