The suspect made an unspecified threat against the White House, according to a law enforcement source.
Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan identified the suspect as Joseph Moshe, 56, of Los Angeles.
After several refusals to surrender to officials, Moshe withstood four rounds of tear gas tossed through his car window before officers fired a taser gun at him.
