Nine Jamaicans in action today

Nine Jamaicans, including Beijing Olympic 100-metre gold medallist Shelly-Ann Fraser, will be in action on today’s third day of competition at the World Championships.



Fraser and her Jamaican teammates Kerron Stewart, who is the Beijing Olympic 100-metre silver medallist, Veronica Campbell-Brown and Aleen Bailey will line up in the women’s 100-metre semifinals.



Fraser and Stewart are down to contest Semi-final One this afternoon at 12.05 p.m. Jamaica time, while Campbell-Brown and Bailey will run in Semi-final Two at 12.13 p.m.



The final is scheduled to run off at 2.35 p.m. and Jamaica should add to their medal tally of two, Usain Bolt’s gold medal and Asafa Powell’s bronze medal.



Kaliese Spencer will be the first Jamaican in action. She will compete in Heat One of the women’s 400 metres this morning at 11.15 a.m. Jamaica time.



Heat Two, scheduled to start at 11.22 a.m., will feature Nickiesha Wilson; while the Olympic gold medalist Melanie Walker will run in Heat Three at 11.29 a.m.



Kenia Sinclair will contest Semi-final Three of the women’s 800 metres at 12.46 p.m.



The other Jamaican in action today is Trecia Smith who competes in the women’s Triple Jump final at 1p.m.



Smith is the only Jamaican woman to have won gold in a field event at a global championship.
