Former TCI premier wants Britain to work with elected officials

The former Premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) Galmo Williams wants Britain to work with elected officials rather than replace them.

Last month, TCI\'s neighbours, the independent CARICOM nations also asked the British authorities to work with local TCI authorities rather than suspend the government.

Mr. Williams’ comment also follows last Friday\'s two-year suspension of the government and assembly in Turks and Caicos following an official report into corruption.

Mr. Williams has described the move as a British coup which has been done without the will of the people.

He’s insisting that the country will not move forward if the people’s rights are taken away or democracy gets sidelined.
