Jamaicans to add to medal haul today

Jamaicans Shericka Williams, Novlene Williams-Mills and Danny McFarlane will attempt to add to the country’s medal haul on today’s fourth day of the 12th World Championship in Beijing, Germany.



Williams, the Beijing Olympic silver medallist and Williams-Mills will line up in the women’s 400-metre final scheduled to run at 12.35 p.m.



The Jamaican-born American Sanya Richards is the hot favorites for the gold medal.



McFarlane, the 2004 Olympic silver medallist, will contest the men’s 400-metre.



Six other Jamaicans are listed to compete today.



Delloreen Ennis London will run in the opening heat of the women’s 100-metre hurdles at 11.10 a.m. followed by Lacena Golding-Clarke, who competes in Heat Two at 11.17 a.m. and Brigitte Foster-Hylton, who runs in Heat 5 at 11.38 a.m.



In the afternoon, the women’s 400-metre hurdlers will compete in the semi-finals.



Beijing Olympics gold medallist Melaine Walker will run in the opening semi-final heat at 1.15 p.m. followed by Kaliese Spencer in Heat Two at 1.24 p.m. and Nickiesha Wilson in Heat 3 at 1.33 p.m.



Meanwhile, Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser who won the country’s second gold medal yesterday is calling on Jamaicans to continue supporting the nation’s athletes.
