Jamaica will not allow cleared athletes to run
The Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association has decided to keep five Jamaican relay athletes involved in a doping case out of the world championships as a precautionary measure.
The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) said yesterday it had no power to bar the five from competing after they had been provisionally cleared of doping allegations.
A Jamaican appeals ruling was expected after the world championships, which end Sunday.
IAAF spokesman Nick Davies said Jamaica would not enter the athletes.
The runners have been identified as Yohan Blake, Sheri-Ann Brooks, Allodin Fothergill, Lansford Spence and Marvin Anderson, who had pulled out of the team earlier because of injury.
However the IAAF said there were no positive doping cases in the men\'s 100 metres, the marquee event of the world championships.
Steeplechaser Jamal Chatbi of Morocco is the only positive athlete of the championships so far after more than 600 tests were analyzed.
Usain Bolt won the men\'s 100 in a world record time of 9.58 seconds, beating Tyson Gay and Asafa Powell.
