Monsterrat Chief Minister admits to political mistake

The Chief Minister of Montserrat, Dr Lowell Lewis has admitted to making a political mistake when he called a general election two years ahead of schedule.



Dr Lewis is contesting the September 8 poll as an independent candidate.



He says when he broke up his coalition government in June, he thought he had the support of the members of his Montserrat Democratic Party (MDP) and key advisors.



Since the election announcement, the MDP has been hit by a number of defections and was unable to attract enough candidates to contest the poll as a viable entity.



It was this situation that prompted the Chief Minister’s decision to run as an independent candidate.
