Semenya faces intense scrutiny about her gender

President of the South African athletics federation Leonard Chuene says women\'s 800-metre world champion Caster Semenya is facing intense scrutiny about her gender because she is African.

The 18-year-old Semenya won her first world title after revelations surfaced that she was undergoing a gender test to prove she was a woman.

Chuene also says there was no evidence to prove Semenya was doing anything wrong.

Semenya skipped the post-race news conference, and has not spoken publicly since the uproar began yesterday afternoon. But Chuene says Semenya was insulted by the scrutiny.

Two days after Semenya qualified for the 800 final, revelations surfaced that she was undergoing a gender verification test because of concerns she does not meet the requirements to compete as a woman.
