England in control of Ashes

Stuart Broad and Graeme Swann combined to take nine wickets as hosts England dismissed Australia for 160 to lead by 172 runs on first innings on today’s second day of the fifth and decisive test.



Australia, replying to England’s first innings total of 332 were 73 without loss but then lost 10 for 87 in 20 overs at The Oval, including eight wickets in the afternoon session to make England a strong favourite to win the test to take the series 2-1 and regain the Ashes.



Broad finished with 5 for 37 and Swann took 4 for 38 with his offbreaks.



Simon Katich top-scored for Australia with 50.



England batting a second time were 22 without loss at Sports Time, a lead of 194 runs.
