Jamaica\'s Campbell-Brown seeks gold in 200m final
Olympic 200 metre champion Veronica Campbell-Brown will be seeking to add to Jamaica’s gold medal tally in Berlin when she runs in the women’s 200 metre final at the 12th World Championships this afternoon.
The race, which also includes two other Jamaicans, Anneisha McLaughlin and Simone Facey is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
Campbell-Brown clocked a season-best 22.29 for second in Semi-final one yesterday.
She was clipped by Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie of The Bahamas, 22.24, as the two clocked the two best times of the round.
Jamaica are top of the gold medal standings with five compared to four for the United States. Jamaica also secured two silver and two bronze, while the United States have four silver and five bronze.
Meanwhile, the semi-finals of the 4 x 100 metre relay will take place this afternoon with Jamaica down to contest the third and final heat of the semi-final at 12.46 p.m.
Asafa Powell, who is suffering from a groin problem sustained prior to the 100 metre final on Sunday and Usain Bolt will not run in the heats.
Powell anchored Jamaica to a world record victory in the event at last year’s Beijing Olympics.
