USA disqualified

It has been confirmed that the United States team has been disqualified from the final of the men’s 4 by 100 metres relay, because of an illegal baton change.

The U.S. team was disqualified because the exchange between Shawn Crawford and Darvis Patton was apparently outside the designated zone. Patton was running the anchor leg.

The defending champions had the best qualifying time of 37.97 seconds after winning their semi-final heat.

At the Beijing Games last year, the Americans dropped the baton and were eliminated.

The final will take place tomorrow afternoon.

The Americans are appealing the decision.
