Flintoff to undergo surgery
Moments after England started celebrating their Ashes success, it was confirmed that Andrew Flintoff would undergo exploratory arthroscopic surgery on his injured right knee.
The surgery is scheduled for tomorrow.
He has been withdrawn from the England one-day and Twenty/Twenty squads for the matches against Ireland and Australia, as well as the Champions Trophy in South Africa.
Flintoff was severely hampered by his injured knee during the Ashes.
He aggravated the injury at Cardiff during the first Test. He managed to play at Lord’s and Edgbaston, but was forced to miss the fourth Test at Headlingley, which Australia won to square the series 1-all.
He returned for a triumphant finale at the Oval, but was below full pace with the ball.
England won the deciding Test by 197-runs on yesterday’s fourth day to seal a 2-1 series triumph and regained the Ashes.
