The Barbados government said it does not intend to shelf plans to introduce a comprehensive immigration strategy.
Prime Minister David Thompson said the policy would be introduced shortly.
The latest public opinion poll has shown that 70 per cent of Barbadians support the government’s decision to offer a six-month amnesty for CARICOM nationals to regularise their status, or face deportation.
The immigration issue was a major agenda item at last month’s CARICOM summit, within the context of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy.
The CSME will allow for the free movement of labour, goods, and skills across the region.
