Ponting will stay as captain

Cricket Australia selection chairman Andrew Hilditch says Ricky Ponting will not be sacked as Australia captain following the 2-1 Ashes defeat to England.

Ponting, who has now lost two Ashes series in England, says he wants to remain as skipper of the side.

Hilditch says calls for Ponting’s dismissal is completely unfair. He says Ponting had a very good series despite been under incredible pressure.

Hilditch also refused to blame Australia’s selectors for the defeat.

The selectors have been heavily criticize in the Australian press since Australia lost the fifth and deciding Test on Sunday by 197 runs at the Oval.
